SO I'd personally definitely get the XDT16 or the newer 19.Technavio has announced its latest market research report titled Power Drill Market by Product, Technology, and Geography - Forecast and Analysis 2022-2026 The XDT13 is smaller and more compact, but in terms of pure versatility, it's no contest that I reach for the old BTD44 90% of the time. The latter is an old first-gen brushless (I believe the first brushless impact offered by any brand). You don't realize how important those speed adjustments are until you use a tool that's only off or on. I think the extra adjustment is really nice to have, because these tools now are so powerful that it's helpful to be able to dial it back to a manageable setting. But they do have worse battery life.įor drivers, the XDT 16 has a four speed vs the three speed of the XDT14. IMO brushed models can handle more abuse and have higher peak capability when pushed. I have the XPH03 brushed model and it's a workhorse. I think the model you want therefore for a drill is the XFD14z (bare tool). However, I always recommend the models with the metal (Yukiwa) chuck. Any thoughts on XFD12 vx XPH07 vs XPH12 vs XPH14? Not sure what features I really need or would be worth paying for.Īgree, since you have the SDS, no need for a hammer drill. I saw a deal on the XPH07 which I know is older now. I have an SDS drill for when I need to make a hole in concrete or brick. Most of my drilling is in wood and not sure if the hammer drill would make much of a difference there. Don't know if I need a hammer drill or just get a regular drill. Any reason for the 14 vs the 16?įor the drill, not sure what to get. They both seem to have nice features over the 13 and earlier versions. For the impact, I'm going to go with either the XDT14 or 16. I'll start with a drill and an impact, then will likely be getting a recip, oscill, and circ saw. Milwaukee and DeWalt were considered, and I would probably be happy with any of them, but read lots of good review about Makita's build quality. I've done a lot of reading and think I'm going to go with 18V Makita. I'm sort of an advanced DIY-er I guess, doing lots of projects around the house from rebuilding my deck to fixing framing to hanging pictures. My current tools are getting pretty old (Porter Cable) so I'm going to start fresh.
